Das Interview:
dadofsamWhat country do you live in: England
What do you do for Salty Dogs Productions: Coding primarily
History With SDP (how long in current position, other job before this one?): Joined at start of summer 05 as a DCX tester for dcx .9, had been mapping previously which led more and more to me using note pad, mainly server side mods, led to an interest in coding, invited to assist Az and Getty Mid-Summer 05, which led to helping Beta test the bf2 mod tools and later coding RC
Other modding experience: Previously assisted making maps and slight tweaks for a DC tournament
Advice for others who want to do what your doing with SDP: There’s no reason why people can’t code, if you have notepad your on step 1 already, realistically its very simple to code BF2, its all object oriented so a lot of the time it can be tweaking values rather than writing hardcore back bone parts of an engine, however that may also be useful for future projects.
Favorite part of working on RC: The people I work with, its relaxed but professional, and the end product is always a joy when it comes together and works perfectly. it’s also not another copy + paste mod, new things are invented daily, granted they may not all see release but we certainly don’t stick by the laws EA tried to write down when they made BF2, we aim to add new dimensions of fun and realism to the game.
Favorite contribution to RC: The bullpoo generated on IRC, nah, all seriousness, I like producing anything that’s appreciated by the testers and will be used properly in game.
Favorite feature in RC (vehicle, weapon, skins, maps, whatever): Has to be the bots, they grow more intelligent with each build (sometimes a build a day), and each time I load up SP I just know its going to be another painful experience
What makes RC different from other mods: The fun, yet real factor, added visual effects and also core changes, eg. how the game plays out, conquest isn’t conquest anymore, it should be called onslaught, also tactics are needed and teamwork is rewarded greatly
Anything you want to add: OMG j00 soo gotta dL t3h mod!1oneone1. Seriously though, be sure to keep checking our forums and news pages for ever growing news etc. also download the Battle Turd radio interview, its a very worth while listen and reveals the future for SDP
