Die PS5 Slim ist die neue Version der PS5, die seit November 2023 erhältlich ist. Die neue Version ist deutlich kleiner, leichter und anpassbarer als das ursprüngliche Modell, bietet aber die gleiche Leistung und Funktionalität. Doch wie schneidet die PS5 Slim im Vergleich zu der alten PS5 CFI-1216A und zu der Xbox Series X ab? Wir haben die PS5 Slim gründlich getestet und verraten euch, ob sich der Kauf lohnt und welche PS5 Slim Konsole Ihr greifen müsst, um einen möglichst leisen Lüfter zu erhalten.

Ich habe mir bei Amazon 5x PlayStation 5 Slim Konsolen bestellt, um zu prüfen, welcher Lüfter jeweils verbaut wurde. So kann ich euch genau sagen, auf welche Produktnummer Ihr auf dem Karton achten müsst, um z.B ein NMB oder ein DELTA Lüfter zu bekommen.

Design und Verarbeitung

Die PS5 Slim ist, wie der Name schon sagt, dünner als die PS5. Die Abmessungen betragen 358 x 96 x 216 Millimeter für die Variante mit Laufwerk und 358 x 80 x 216 Millimeter für die digitale Edition.

Damit ist die PS5 Slim rund 8 Prozent kürzer, 8 Prozent schmaler und 17 Prozent flacher als die PS5. Das Gewicht liegt bei 3,2 Kilogramm für die Laufwerk-Version und 2,6 Kilogramm für die digitale Edition. Das sind rund 18 Prozent weniger als bei der PS5.

Die PS5 Slim behält das futuristische Design der PS5 bei, mit einem schwarzen Mittelteil und weißen Seitenplatten. Allerdings sind die Seitenplatten nun zweigeteilt, wobei der obere Teil glänzend und der untere Teil matt ist. Das verleiht der Konsole einen etwas anderen Look, der aber Geschmackssache ist. Die Seitenplatten lassen sich zudem leicht abnehmen und austauschen, was die Personalisierung der Konsole ermöglicht. Sony bietet bereits verschiedene Farben an, wie Silber, Blau und Rot, und auch Drittanbieter haben eigene Designs im Angebot.

Die PS5 Slim kann sowohl horizontal als auch vertikal aufgestellt werden. Allerdings liegt der Konsole kein Standfuß mehr bei, wie es bei der PS5 der Fall war. Wer die PS5 Slim sicher vertikal aufstellen möchte, muss einen extra Standfuß für 30 Euro kaufen. Das ist etwas ärgerlich, zumal der Preis der Konsole gleich geblieben ist.

Die PS5 Slim steht aber auch ohne Standfuß recht stabil, zumindest mit der Ausbuchtung für das Laufwerk. Für die horizontale Position gibt es zwei kleine Plastikfüßchen, die seitlich eingesteckt werden können.

Die Anschlüsse der PS5 Slim wurden leicht geändert. An der Vorderseite gibt es nun zwei USB-C-Ports und an der Rückseite sind die Anschlüsse etwas verschoben.

Die PS5 Slim hat natürlich auch hinten zwei weitere USB-A-Ports, einen HDMI-Port, einen Ethernet-Port und einen Stromanschluss.  Die Verbindung zum Fernseher erfolgt über HDMI, wobei die PS5 Slim 8K-Auflösung und 120 Hertz Bildwiederholrate unterstützt. Für Heimkino-Anlagen wäre ein zweiter HDMI-Anschluss für den Ton praktisch, den bieten aber nur einige UHD-Blu-ray-Player, nicht aber die PS5 Slim und ein passender Bluetooth Sender für das Headset ist auch nicht direkt integriert.

Die PS5 Slim gibt es in zwei Varianten: mit oder ohne Laufwerk. Das Laufwerk ist ein 4K-UHD-Blu-ray-Player, der bis zu 100 Gigabyte pro Disc lesen kann. Der Unterschied zur PS5 ist, dass das Laufwerk bei der PS5 Slim modular ist, das heißt, es lässt sich mit wenigen Handgriffen abnehmen oder anbringen. Das ist vor allem für diejenigen interessant, die sich die digitale Edition kaufen und später doch noch Discs abspielen möchten. Das Nachrüstlaufwerk kostet allerdings 120 Euro, was mehr ist als der Preisunterschied zwischen den beiden Versionen (549 Euro mit Laufwerk, 449 Euro ohne Laufwerk). Daher empfehlen wir eher die Variante mit Laufwerk, da sie mehr Flexibilität bietet.

Leistung und Funktionalität

Die PS5 Slim bietet die gleiche Leistung und Funktionalität wie die PS5. Das bedeutet, dass sie einen AMD Zen 2 Prozessor mit acht Kernen und 3,5 Gigahertz, eine AMD RDNA 2 Grafikkarte mit 10,3 Teraflops und 2,23 Gigahertz, 16 Gigabyte GDDR6 Arbeitsspeicher und eine 1 Terabyte SSD-Festplatte hat. Die PS5 Slim ist damit eine der leistungsstärksten Konsolen auf dem Markt und kann mit der Xbox Series X mithalten. Die Spiele laufen flüssig und sehen fantastisch aus, vor allem mit HDR und Raytracing-Effekten. Die PS5 Slim unterstützt auch 8K-Auflösung, allerdings gibt es dafür noch kaum Inhalte.

Die PS5 Slim hat einen Vorteil gegenüber der PS5, Sie hat mehr Speicherplatz. Die PS5 hatte nur 825 Gigabyte, von denen rund 667 Gigabyte nutzbar waren. Das war für viele Nutzer zu wenig, vor allem angesichts der Größe mancher Spiele, die über 100 Gigabyte beanspruchen können. Die PS5 Slim hat dagegen 1 Terabyte, von denen rund 825 Gigabyte nutzbar sind. Das ist immer noch nicht üppig, aber deutlich besser. Zudem lässt sich der Speicherplatz erweitern, indem man eine zusätzliche SSD-Festplatte einbaut. Das ist bei der PS5 Slim einfacher als bei der PS5, da der SSD-Slot leichter zugänglich ist. Allerdings muss die SSD-Festplatte bestimmte Anforderungen erfüllen, die Sony auf seiner Webseite angibt.

Die PS5 Slim hat die gleiche Benutzeroberfläche wie die PS5, die wir bereits in unserem PS5 Test ausführlich beschrieben haben. Die Oberfläche ist übersichtlich und intuitiv gestaltet, mit zwei Hauptbereichen: dem Control Center und dem Home-Bildschirm. Das Control Center ist eine Leiste, die man jederzeit aufrufen kann, indem man den PlayStation-Button auf dem Controller drückt. Dort kann man schnell auf verschiedene Funktionen zugreifen, wie zum Beispiel die Freundesliste, die Nachrichten, die Einstellungen, den Ruhezustand oder die Aktivitäten. Die Aktivitäten sind eine Besonderheit der PS5, die es ermöglichen, bestimmte Abschnitte oder Herausforderungen eines Spiels direkt anzusteuern, ohne durch Menüs zu navigieren. Außerdem zeigen sie den Fortschritt und die geschätzte Zeit an, die man für eine Aktivität braucht.

Der Home-Bildschirm ist der Startpunkt, von dem aus man die Spiele und Apps auswählen kann. Die Spiele sind horizontal angeordnet, mit großen Symbolen und Hintergrundbildern. Wenn man ein Spiel auswählt, öffnet sich ein vertikales Menü, das weitere Informationen und Optionen anzeigt, wie zum Beispiel den Newsfeed, die Trophäen, den Shop oder die Medienbibliothek. Die Apps sind in einem separaten Bereich untergebracht, der ebenfalls horizontal scrollbar ist. Dort findet man die gängigen Streaming-Dienste, wie zum Beispiel Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney Plus oder YouTube. Die PS5 Slim unterstützt auch die meisten gängigen Audio- und Videoformate, wie zum Beispiel Dolby Atmos, Dolby Vision, HDR10 oder DTS:X.

Die PS5 Slim hat die gleiche Funktionalität wie die PS5, was bedeutet, dass sie abwärtskompatibel ist mit den meisten PS4-Spielen. Das ist ein großer Vorteil, da man so auf eine riesige Bibliothek von über 4000 Titeln zugreifen kann. Die PS4-Spiele profitieren zudem von der höheren Leistung der PS5 Slim, indem sie schneller laden, flüssiger laufen und besser aussehen. Einige PS4-Spiele haben sogar spezielle PS5-Updates erhalten, die die Grafik und die Funktionen verbessern, wie zum Beispiel Spider-Man, God of War oder Ghost of Tsushima. Die PS5 Slim ist allerdings nicht kompatibel mit den PS3-, PS2- oder PS1-Spielen, was schade ist, da die Xbox Series X alle vorherigen Xbox-Generationen unterstützt.

Der DualSense Controller

Die PS5 Slim ist mit dem gleichen Controller ausgestattet wie die PS5 – den DualSense Wireless Controller. Dieser Controller ist ein herausragendes Merkmal der Konsole, da er ein immersives Spielerlebnis ermöglicht. Sein ergonomisches Design liegt gut in der Hand, und mit einer Akkulaufzeit von etwa 12 Stunden bietet er eine lange Nutzungsdauer.

Besonders hervorzuheben sind das haptische Feedback und die adaptiven Trigger, die dem Spieler ein einzigartiges Spielgefühl vermitteln. Jeder Boden, jede Waffe und jeder Bogen fühlen sich dank dieser Funktionen besonders realistisch an und tauchen den Spieler tiefer ins Geschehen ein.

Betriebsgeräusche, Hitze und Stromverbrauch

Die PS5 erreicht im Dashboard 28 Dezibel (DB) und während des Spielens 38 DB, während die PS5 Slim 27 DB im Dashboard und 37 DB während des Spielens aufweist. In horizontaler Position ist die PlayStation 5 Slim mit 53 DB sogar lauter als die PS5, die 45 DB erreicht.

Die PlayStation 5 Slim CFI-2016A hat zwei verschiedene Modelle: P-27425109-C mit dem leiseren DELTA-Lüfter und P-27425110-4 mit dem lauteren NMB-Lüfter. Der Kühler der PS5 CFI-1216A verfügt über 17 Flügel und wiegt 259 g, während der Kühler der PS5 Slim CFI-2016A 19 Flügel hat und 243 g wiegt.

In Bezug auf die Wärmeentwicklung erreicht die PS5 maximal 77 Grad, während die PlayStation 5 Slim maximal 90 Grad erreicht. Der Stromverbrauch beträgt bei der PS5 CFI-1216A im Dashboard 83 Watt, bei der PlayStation 5 Slim nur 75 Watt und bei der Xbox Series X nur 48 Watt.

Der maximale Stromverbrauch beim Spielen beträgt bei der PS5 CFI-1216A 256 Watt, bei der PS5 Slim 242 Watt und bei der Xbox Series X nur 200 Watt. Der durchschnittliche Stromverbrauch liegt bei der PS5 CFI-1216A bei 205 Watt, bei der PS5 Slim CFI-2016A bei 200 Watt und bei der Xbox Series X bei 190 Watt.

Beim Spielen von PS4-Spielen beträgt der Stromverbrauch auf der PS5 CFI-1216A mindestens 108 Watt und maximal 165 Watt, während er auf der PlayStation 5 Slim mindestens 100 Watt und maximal 160 Watt beträgt.

In Bezug auf Betriebsgeräusche ist die PlayStation 5 Slim ähnlich wie die CFI-1216A einzuordnen, wobei die Geräuschpegel je nach verbautem Lüfter variieren können und lauter sind.

Insgesamt ist die PS5 leiser als die PS5 Slim. Mit der Deep Earth Collection haben Nutzer die Möglichkeit, die Seitenteile der PS5 Slim auszutauschen, und bei Amazon sind zahlreiche Seitenteile für die PS5 Slim erhältlich.

Das Gewicht der PS5 Konsolen & DualSense Controller

Das Gewicht des PS5-Controllers ist bei der PlayStation 5 Slim um 3 g gestiegen. Die PS5 Slim CFI-2016A wiegt 2164 g und ist damit 727 g leichter als die PS5 CFI-1216A, die 3164 g wiegt.

Interessant ist, dass der PS5 DualSense Controller nun 3 g schwerer ist als bei der alten PS5 Revision. Das lässt vermuten das man hier am Controller noch das ein oder andere Teil überarbeitet hat, um die Ausfallsicherheit zu erhöhen. Ich habe auch 2022 bei dem PS5 DualSense Camouflage (CFI-ZCT1W / AK8CFIZCT1A) 1 g Unterschied zur damaligen Revision CFI-1216A beim Abwiegen festgestellt. Die Modellnummer der Controller sind nicht anders, es sind immer  CFI-ZCT1W, jedoch unterscheiden sich die Produktnummer z.B um ein A oder B. „AK8CFIZCT1B“ bei der alten PS5 „DualSense Controller im Lieferumfang“ hatte „AK8CFIZCT1A“.

Welche Lüfter sind verbaut?

NMB – 11541GS-12M-WB-01, 1.69Am DC12 kommt mit 19 Schaufeln und ist äußerlich gut zu unterscheiden.

Der DELTA – KSB1212HEJF9, beide Lüfter haben jeweils 19 Schaufeln und laufen mit 1.69A DC12.

Die beiden Lüfter sind gut zu unterscheiden. Der DELTA Lüfter hat in der Mitte eine sehr deutlich kleinere Aussparung.

Die Schrauben ließen sich beim ersten Mal schwerer lösen, als das bei der PS5 „Fat“ Modell war, hier ist richtiges Werkzeug sehr wichtig, sonst geht der Kopf oben kaputt und Ihr könnt diese nach 2 -3x nicht mehr lösen oder festziehen.

Wenn der Lüfter ausgebaut wird, ist die richtige Anordnung der Schrauben sehr wichtig, da diese eine unterschiedliche Länge haben. „oben zu sehen, der NMB Lüfter“

Die Lüfter der PlayStation 5 / PS5 Modellgruppe „Slim“ lassen sich sehr gut säubern, die Seitenteile lassen sich sehr einfach lösen und ermöglichen somit ein gutes reinigen des Lüfters von Staub. „oben zu sehen, der NMB Lüfter“

Welche PlayStation 5 Slim ist leiser?

Im Test hat sich herausgestellt, dass der DELTA Lüfter in der PS5 Slim am wenigsten störend wahrnehmbar ist, als der NMB Lüfter.

Anhand der DB Analyse kann man gut sehen, dass der NMB Lüfter nicht nur gefühlt lauter ist, sondern auch messbar mehr Betriebsgeräusche verursacht.

Dabei ist der NMB Lüfter in der Frequenz etwas störender als der Delta Lüfter, weshalb ich mich am Ende auch für den Delta Lüfter entschieden hatte.

Um eine PlayStation 5 Slim mit DELTA Lüfter zu erhalten, müsst Ihr nur auf die Produktnummer: P-27425109-C achten. Diese steht auf der Unterseite der PlayStation 5 Slim Verpackung.

Wenn Ihr eine PlayStation 5 Slim mit einen NMB Lüfter möchtet, achtet auf die die Produktnummer: P-27425110-4.

PlayStation 5 Konsole oder PC?

Die Frage hat sich sicherlich schon fast jeder gestellt, ob man sich besser eine Spielekonsole wie die PS5 oder Xbox Series X kauft und dafür evtl. nur einen kleinere PC für die Schreibarbeiten.

Betrachten wir mal die Vor- und Nachteile für einen PC

PC Vorteile:

• Spiele auf dem Gaming PC werden hervorragend aussehen
• Der Gaming PC ist auch für andere Anwendungen nutzbar
• PC Spielen auch am TV möglich
• PC Games sind sehr günstig und günstiger als Konsolenspiele
• Kein PS Essential oder Xbox Gold nötig um Online zu spielen
• Gaming PC mit Wasserkühlung extrem leise

PC Nachteile:

• Ein Gaming PC mit ordentlich Leistung kostet zwischen 1500 – 2500 €
• Die Hardware ist alle 4 Jahre wieder alt, erneute Kosten!
• Spiele machen eher Probleme als bei der Konsole „Unterschiedliche Hardware“
• Monitor nötig für schärfere Auflösung

Konsolen Vorteile:

• Einschalten und Los legen
• Günstiger Anschaffungspreis als ein PC
• Nutzbar im Schnitt 8 Jahre für aktuelle Games
• Weniger Probleme bei Games, durch einheitliche Hardware
• Umfangreiche Controller Features, DualSense, Adaptive Trigger, Haptisches Feedback etc.
• Kleiner als ein PC
• Kein Monitor nötig

Konsolen Nachteile:

• Stellenweise laute Betriebsgeräusche (Außer Xbox Series X)
• Konsolen Spiele kosten deutlich mehr
• PS Essential oder Xbox Gold für Online Matches nötig

Ein Gaming PC hat viele Vorteile, aber auch den Nachteil der hohen Kosten, die alle 4 Jahre im Raum stehen, wenn man aktuelle Titel wie gewohnt auf höchster Qualität spielen möchte.

Eine Grafikkarte, welche die nächsten 4 Jahre alles auf den höchsten Einstellungen wiedergeben kann, geht ab 900 Euro los und kann bis zu mehrere tausend Euro, je höher die Investition, desto länger kann die Hardware auch aktuellste PC Games auf höchsten Einstellungen darstellen.

Betrachtet man dagegen den Preis für eine Spiele Konsole, liegen wir bei rund 500 Euro und können damit die nächsten 6-8 Jahre die aktuellste Titel spielen.

Auf einem Gaming-PC hast du die Freiheit, Grafikeinstellungen wie Texturqualität, Schatten und Auflösung individuell anzupassen, um ein Spiel auf höchsten Einstellungen zu genießen. Du kannst auch Anti-Aliasing kontrollieren und die Bildwiederholrate optimieren. Auf Konsolen ist die Grafikqualität in der Regel vorgegeben und nicht anpassbar. Du erhältst eine Standard-Grafik, die von den Entwicklern festgelegt wurde, ohne die Möglichkeit, individuelle Anpassungen vorzunehmen. Außer FPS Modus und Grafik Modus.

Ich persönlich mag gute Grafik und freue mich, die Grafikeinstellungen hochschrauben zu können, an der Konsole merke ich immer wieder, wie schlecht die Games im Vergleich zum PC aussehen können. Spiele wie Cyberpunk 2077 können auf dem PC hochauflösend um einiges besser dargestellt werden, als auf der PS5 oder Xbox Series X Konsole.

Da liegen die Grenzen der Konsole und jeder muss wissen, ob er regenlässig mehrere Tausend euro für ein Gaming PC ausgeben möchte, oder 500-600 Euro alle 6-8 Jahre auf den Tisch legt.

Ich habe es immer bevorzugt am TV zu spielen, vor allem durch den Controller macht es mir deutlich mehr Spaß als am PC, ich kann zwar auch einen Controller am PC Anschließen, aber es ist nicht das selbe, wie an der PS5 und es ist immer eine gewissen Vorbereitung nötig, die Konsole ist sehr schnell an und Spielbereit, dazu laufen die Games meist ohne Probleme, wogegen am PC oftmals wegen unterschiedlicher Konfigurationen es zu Problemen kommt.

Deshalb muss sich jeder diese Frage selbst beantworten, genauso ob Ihr eure PS5 evtl. gegen eine PlayStation 5 Modellgruppe „Slim“ eintauscht. Und wer noch keine PS5 hat, wird sich jetzt sicherlich die Frage beantwortet haben, ob er sich das alte Modell der PS5 kauft.

Lohnt sich der Wechsel von PS5 auf PS5 Slim?

Ich finde nicht das sich der Wechsel lohnt, auch wenn ich selbst den Wechsel von PS5 CFI-1216A auf CFI-2016A gemacht habe.

Das hatte bei mir folgende Gründe:

1. Neue Garantie (Vorher noch 6 Monate Gewährleistung)
2. Laufwerk abnehmbar, somit auch erneuerbar
3. 180 GB Mehr Festplatte Speicher und meiner Platze schon 😉
4. Der Controller mit 3g mehr Gewicht, ich hoffe das hier Bauteile ausgetauscht wurden, welche anfälliger gewesen sind.
5. 2x vorne ein USB-C Anschluss
6. Größe & Design (Lüfterlamellen Fehlen mir trotzdem)

Dagegen haben folgende Gründe gestanden:

1. Zu hohe Temperaturen
2. Lüfter Lautstärke grenzwertig
3. Staubanfälliger, durch fehlende Lüfterlamellen

Fazit

Die PlayStation 5 Modellgruppe „Slim“ ist eine Weiterentwicklung der PS5, die etwa 30% kleiner ist als die PS5 CFI-1216A und auch 727g leichter. Das kommt durch das abgesteckte Kühlgerippe und den kleineren Lüfter. Leider ist Sony sehr unbegabt ein gutes Lüfter Design zu entwickeln.

Deshalb ist die PS5 Slim auch mit 90 Grad Abwärme um gut 10 Grad wärmer als die alte PS5 Konsole, sondern auch etwas lauter. Weshalb die Konsole leider doch gut hörbar ist, vor allem dreht der Lüfter beim Starten der Konsole kurz hoch.

Dabei bietet die PS5 Slim (CFI-2016A) die gleiche Leistung und Funktionalität wie die PS5 (CFI-1216A) und das erklärt auch, warum die Konsole so heiß wird.

Weniger Platz in der Konsole bei gleicher Leistung und abgespeckten Kühlkörpern und Aktivkühlung. Das Sony hier die Lüftungslamellen vorne und oben entfernen musste und eine seitliche Öffnung in der Mitte für den Lüfter benötigte, war die einzigste Möglichkeit hier noch mal etwas zu optimieren, um den Luftstrom nicht zu behindern.

Bedauerlicherweise wird wohl die PS5 Slim auch für den Staub anfälliger sein, da nun zum einen die Lamellen fehlen und zum anderen die Seitliche Öffnung für den Lüfter entsprechend gut alles anziehen wird, ich bin gespannt wie meine PS5 Slim nach 1 Jahr aussieht. Meine PS5 war jedenfalls nach einem Jahr noch wie Neu, absolut kein Staub, der sich gelohnt hätte zu entfernen.

Funktionieren tut das ganze zwar, aber alles auf Kosten der Haltbarkeit und vor allem der Betriebslautstärke. Ansonsten ist die Konsole sehr gelungen, 2x USB-C vorne und das Design sieht auch schick aus. Obwohl das Laufwerk zu sehr hervorgehoben wurde. Es hätte besser ausgehen, wenn das Laufwerk wie bei der PS5 eher im Design verschmolzen wäre. Deshalb ist Digitale Version der PlayStation 5 Slim in jedem Fall optisch schöner. 🙂

Positiv wäre zu erwähnen, dass die Slim durch die geringe Größe jetzt besser in sein Sideboard passt und sich nun 4 Seitenteile einzeln öffnen lassen, dass erleichtert die Wartung der Konsole.

Auch verfügt die PS5 Slim jedoch im Vergleich zu ihrem älteren Geschwistermodell über 180 GB mehr Festplattenspeicher und der rennt immer noch mit 5500 MB/s.

Die PS5 Slim ist auch abwärtskompatibel mit den meisten PS4-Spielen, die von der höheren Leistung profitieren. Dennoch hat die PS5 Slim auch einige Nachteile, wie beispielsweise die Lautstärke, die Wärmeentwicklung oder das Fehlen eines Standfußes. Daher ist die PS5 Slim nicht für jeden geeignet. Sie ist eine gute Wahl für alle, die eine kleinere Konsole suchen, später evtl. noch das CD-Laufwerk nachrüsten möchten und von mehr Speicherplatz und einen neuen USB-C Anschluss profitieren möchten.

Ich habe mich letztlich für die PS5 Slim entschieden, aber es war keine leichte Entscheidung. Gerade was die Abwärme betrifft, steht die PS5 Slim definitiv hinter der großen PS5 zurück.

Es kann einfach nicht gut sein, mehr passive Kühlung zu entfernen und dann noch einen kleineren Lüfter zu verbauen. PS5 Slim Compared: How Good is the New Console Really?

The PS5 Slim is the new version of the PS5, available since November 2023. This updated model is notably smaller, lighter, and more customizable than the original, while maintaining the same level of performance and functionality. But how does the PS5 Slim stack up against the old PS5 CFI-1216A and the Xbox Series X? We thoroughly tested the PS5 Slim to determine if it’s worth the purchase and which PS5 Slim console you should choose to get the quietest fan.

I ordered 5 PlayStation 5 Slim consoles from Amazon to examine which fan was installed in each. This way, I can tell you exactly which product number to look for on the box to get, for example, an NMB or a DELTA fan.

Design and Build

As the name suggests, the PS5 Slim is thinner than the PS5. The dimensions are 358 x 96 x 216 millimeters for the version with a disk drive and 358 x 80 x 216 millimeters for the digital edition.

This makes the PS5 Slim approximately 8% shorter, 8% narrower, and 17% flatter than the PS5. The weight is 3.2 kilograms for the disk drive version and 2.6 kilograms for the digital edition, which is about 18% less than the PS5.

The PS5 Slim retains the futuristic design of the PS5, with a black center and white side panels. However, the side panels are now divided, with the upper part glossy and the lower part matte. This gives the console a slightly different look, which is a matter of personal taste. The side panels can also be easily removed and replaced, allowing for customization. Sony already offers various colors, such as silver, blue, and red, and third-party designs are also available.

The PS5 Slim can be positioned horizontally or vertically. However, the console no longer comes with a stand, as was the case with the PS5. If you want to safely set up the PS5 Slim vertically, you’ll need to purchase an additional stand for 30 euros. This is somewhat annoying, especially since the price of the console has remained the same.

The PS5 Slim is still quite stable without the stand, at least with the bulge for the disk drive. For the horizontal position, there are two small plastic feet that can be inserted sideways.

The ports on the PS5 Slim have been slightly changed. There are now two USB-C ports on the front, and the ports on the back have been slightly shifted.

Of course, the PS5 Slim also has two additional USB-A ports, an HDMI port, an Ethernet port, and a power port on the back. The connection to the TV is via HDMI, with the PS5 Slim supporting 8K resolution and 120Hz refresh rate. For home theater systems, a second HDMI port for audio would be convenient, but this is only offered by some UHD Blu-ray players, not by the PS5 Slim, and a suitable Bluetooth transmitter for the headset is also not directly integrated.

The PS5 Slim comes in two variants: with or without a disk drive. The disk drive is a 4K UHD Blu-ray player that can read up to 100 gigabytes per disc. The difference from the PS5 is that the disk drive in the PS5 Slim is modular, meaning it can be easily removed or attached. This is especially interesting for those who buy the digital edition but later want to play discs. However, the upgrade drive costs 120 euros, which is more than the price difference between the two versions (549 euros with drive, 449 euros without drive). Therefore, we recommend the version with the drive, as it offers more flexibility.

Performance and Functionality

The PS5 Slim offers the same performance and functionality as the PS5. This means it features an AMD Zen 2 processor with eight cores clocked at 3.5 gigahertz, an AMD RDNA 2 graphics card with 10.3 teraflops and 2.23 gigahertz, 16 gigabytes of GDDR6 memory, and a 1 terabyte SSD drive. As such, the PS5 Slim is one of the most powerful consoles on the market and can compete with the Xbox Series X. Games run smoothly and look fantastic, especially with HDR and ray-tracing effects. The PS5 Slim also supports 8K resolution, although content for this is still limited.

The PS5 Slim has an advantage over the PS5 in terms of storage space. The PS5 only had 825 gigabytes, of which around 667 gigabytes were usable. This was insufficient for many users, especially considering the size of some games, which can exceed 100 gigabytes. In contrast, the PS5 Slim has 1 terabyte, of which around 825 gigabytes are usable. While still not abundant, this is a significant improvement. Additionally, storage space can be expanded by installing an additional SSD drive. This is easier to do with the PS5 Slim than with the PS5, as the SSD slot is more accessible. However, the SSD drive must meet certain requirements specified by Sony on its website.

The PS5 Slim features the same user interface as the PS5, which we’ve extensively described in our PS5 review. The interface is clear and intuitive, with two main areas: the Control Center and the Home screen. The Control Center is a bar that can be accessed at any time by pressing the PlayStation button on the controller. From there, users can quickly access various functions such as the friends list, messages, settings, rest mode, or activities. Activities are a unique feature of the PS5, allowing players to directly access specific sections or challenges of a game without navigating through menus. They also display progress and estimated time needed for an activity.

The Home screen is the starting point from which users can select games and apps. Games are arranged horizontally, with large icons and background images. Selecting a game opens a vertical menu that displays additional information and options, such as the news feed, trophies, the store, or the media library. Apps are housed in a separate area that is also horizontally scrollable. There, users can find common streaming services such as Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney Plus, or YouTube. The PS5 Slim also supports most common audio and video formats, such as Dolby Atmos, Dolby Vision, HDR10, or DTS:X.

The PS5 Slim has the same functionality as the PS5, meaning it is backwards compatible with most PS4 games. This is a significant advantage, as it provides access to a vast library of over 4000 titles. PS4 games also benefit from the higher performance of the PS5 Slim, loading faster, running smoother, and looking better. Some PS4 games have even received special PS5 updates that enhance graphics and features, such as Spider-Man, God of War, or Ghost of Tsushima. However, the PS5 Slim is not compatible with PS3, PS2, or PS1 games, which is unfortunate compared to the Xbox Series X, which supports all previous Xbox generations.

The DualSense Controller

The PS5 Slim comes equipped with the same controller as the PS5 – the DualSense Wireless Controller. This controller is a standout feature of the console, offering an immersive gaming experience. Its ergonomic design feels comfortable in the hand, and with a battery life of around 12 hours, it provides long-lasting use.

Notably, the haptic feedback and adaptive triggers are particularly impressive, providing players with a unique gaming sensation. Thanks to these features, every surface, weapon, and bow feels exceptionally realistic, immersing players deeper into the action.

Operating Noise, Heat, and Power Consumption

The PS5 reaches 28 decibels (dB) on the dashboard and 38 dB while playing, whereas the PS5 Slim measures 27 dB on the dashboard and 37 dB during gameplay. In the horizontal position, the PlayStation 5 Slim reaches 53 dB, louder than the PS5, which reaches 45 dB.

The PlayStation 5 Slim CFI-2016A comes in two different models: P-27425109-C with the quieter DELTA fan and P-27425110-4 with the louder NMB fan. The cooler of the PS5 CFI-1216A has 17 blades and weighs 259 g, while the cooler of the PS5 Slim CFI-2016A has 19 blades and weighs 243 g.

In terms of heat generation, the PS5 reaches a maximum of 77 degrees Celsius, while the PlayStation 5 Slim reaches a maximum of 90 degrees Celsius. Power consumption for the PS5 CFI-1216A is 83 watts on the dashboard, while the PlayStation 5 Slim is only 75 watts, and the Xbox Series X is only 48 watts.

The maximum power consumption during gameplay for the PS5 CFI-1216A is 256 watts, for the PS5 Slim 242 watts, and for the Xbox Series X only 200 watts. The average power consumption for the PS5 CFI-1216A is 205 watts, for the PS5 Slim CFI-2016A it is 200 watts, and for the Xbox Series X it is 190 watts.

When playing PS4 games, power consumption on the PS5 CFI-1216A ranges from a minimum of 108 watts to a maximum of 165 watts, while on the PlayStation 5 Slim, it ranges from a minimum of 100 watts to a maximum of 160 watts.

In terms of operating noise, the PlayStation 5 Slim is similar to the CFI-1216A, with noise levels varying depending on the installed fan and generally louder.

Overall, the PS5 is quieter than the PS5 Slim. With the Deep Earth Collection, users have the option to exchange the side panels of the PS5 Slim, and Amazon offers numerous side panels for the PS5 Slim.

Weight of PS5 Consoles & DualSense Controller

The weight of the PS5 controller has increased by 3 grams with the PlayStation 5 Slim. The PS5 Slim CFI-2016A weighs 2164 grams, making it 727 grams lighter than the PS5 CFI-1216A, which weighs 3164 grams.

Interestingly, the PS5 DualSense controller is now 3 grams heavier than the old PS5 revision. This suggests that some parts of the controller may have been revised to increase reliability. I also found a 1-gram difference between the PS5 DualSense Camouflage (CFI-ZCT1W / AK8CFIZCT1A) and the previous revision CFI-1216A when weighing. The model numbers of the controllers are the same, always CFI-ZCT1W, but the product number differs, for example, by an A or B. „AK8CFIZCT1B“ for the old PS5 „DualSense controller included“.

Which Fans Are Installed?

NMB – 11541GS-12M-WB-01, 1.69Am DC12 comes with 19 blades and is externally easily distinguishable.

The two fans are easy to distinguish. The DELTA fan has a significantly smaller recess in the middle.

The screws were harder to loosen the first time than with the PS5 „Fat“ model; here, proper tools are very important, otherwise, the head may break off, and you won’t be able to loosen or tighten them after 2-3 times.

When removing the fan, the correct arrangement of the screws is very important, as they have different lengths. „Above, you can see the NMB fan.“

The fans of the PlayStation 5 / PS5 model group „Slim“ can be cleaned very well; the side panels can be easily removed, allowing for thorough cleaning of the fan from dust. „Above, you can see the NMB fan.“

Which PlayStation 5 Slim is quieter?

In the test, it was found that the DELTA fan in the PS5 Slim is the least noticeable, compared to the NMB fan.

Based on the DB analysis, it can be seen that the NMB fan not only feels louder but also generates more measurable operating noise.

The NMB fan is slightly more annoying in frequency than the Delta fan, which is why I ultimately chose the Delta fan.

To get a PlayStation 5 Slim with a DELTA fan, you only need to look for the product number: P-27425109-C. This is printed on the bottom of the PlayStation 5 Slim packaging.

If you want a PlayStation 5 Slim with an NMB fan, look for the product number: P-27425110-4.

PlayStation 5 Console or PC?

Almost everyone has probably asked themselves the question of whether it’s better to buy a gaming console like the PS5 or Xbox Series X and maybe just a smaller PC for writing tasks.

Let’s consider the advantages and disadvantages of a PC:

PC Advantages:

• Games on the gaming PC will look excellent
• The gaming PC can also be used for other applications
• PC gaming is also possible on TV
• PC games are very cheap and cheaper than console games
• No PS Essential or Xbox Gold required to play online
• Gaming PC with water cooling is extremely quiet

PC Disadvantages:

• A gaming PC with decent performance costs between €1500 – €2500
• The hardware becomes outdated every 4 years, additional costs!
• Games are more problematic than with consoles „Different hardware“
• Monitor necessary for sharper resolution

Console Advantages:

• Turn on and play
• Cheaper purchase price than a PC
• Usable for current games for an average of 8 years
• Fewer problems with games due to uniform hardware
• Extensive controller features, DualSense, Adaptive Triggers, Haptic Feedback, etc.
• Smaller than a PC
• No monitor necessary

Console Disadvantages:

• Sometimes loud operating noise (except Xbox Series X)
• Console games cost significantly more
• PS Essential or Xbox Gold required for online matches

A gaming PC has many advantages but also the disadvantage of high costs that arise every 4 years if you want to play current titles as usual in the highest quality.

A graphics card that can render everything on the highest settings for the next 4 years starts at €900 and can cost up to several thousand euros. The higher the investment, the longer the hardware can display the latest PC games on the highest settings.

In contrast, considering the price for a gaming console, we are at around €500 and can play the latest titles for the next 6-8 years.

On a gaming PC, you have the freedom to individually adjust graphics settings such as texture quality, shadows, and resolution to enjoy a game at the highest settings. You can also control anti-aliasing and optimize the frame rate. On consoles, the graphics quality is usually predetermined and not adjustable. You get a standard graphics setting determined by the developers without the ability to make individual adjustments. Except for FPS mode and graphics mode.

Personally, I like good graphics and enjoy being able to increase the graphics settings. On the console, I often notice how poorly games can look compared to the PC. Games like Cyberpunk 2077 can be displayed much better in high resolution on the PC than on the PS5 or Xbox Series X console.

That’s where the console’s limits are, and everyone has to decide whether they want to spend several thousand euros regularly on a gaming PC or lay down €500-€600 every 6-8 years.

I have always preferred to play on TV, especially because of the controller, it’s much more fun than on PC. I can also connect a controller to the PC, but it’s not the same as on the PS5, and it always requires some preparation. The console is very quick to start and ready to play, plus the games mostly run without problems, whereas on the PC, there are often problems due to different configurations.

That’s why everyone has to answer this question for themselves, just as whether you might want to trade in your PS5 for a PlayStation 5 model group „Slim“. And if you don’t already have a PS5, you’ve probably answered the question of whether to buy the old model of the PS5 now.

Is it Worth Switching from PS5 to PS5 Slim?

I don’t think the switch is worth it, even though I made the switch from PS5 CFI-1216A to CFI-2016A myself.

Here were my reasons:

• New warranty (previously only 6 months warranty)
• Removable drive, thus also replaceable
• 180 GB more hard drive storage, and mine is already full 😉
• The controller with 3g more weight, I hope components that were more prone to failure have been replaced here
• 2x USB-C ports at the front
• Size & Design (still missing fan slats)

On the other hand, the following reasons stood against it:

• Too high temperatures
• Fan noise borderline
• More prone to dust due to missing fan slats
• Conclusion

Conclusion

The PlayStation 5 model group „Slim“ is an advancement of the PS5, which is about 30% smaller than the PS5 CFI-1216A and also 727g lighter. This is due to the detached cooling rib and the smaller fan. Unfortunately, Sony is very incapable of developing a good fan design.

Therefore, the PS5 Slim is not only about 10 degrees warmer than the old PS5 console, but also slightly louder. Unfortunately, the console is still quite audible, especially when the fan briefly ramps up when starting the console.

The PS5 Slim (CFI-2016A) offers the same performance and functionality as the PS5 (CFI-1216A), which also explains why the console runs so hot.

Less space in the console with the same performance and pared-down cooling fins and active cooling. Sony had to remove the ventilation slats at the front and top and needed a side opening in the middle for the fan, which was the only way to optimize the airflow without hindrance.

Unfortunately, the PS5 Slim is likely to be more prone to dust, as the slats are now missing and the side opening for the fan will attract everything well. I’m curious to see what my PS5 Slim will look like after 1 year. My PS5, on the other hand, was still like new after a year, absolutely no dust worth removing.

While everything works, it’s all at the expense of durability and, above all, noise. Otherwise, the console is very successful, with 2x USB-C ports at the front, and the design also looks chic. Although the drive was too highlighted. It would have been better if the drive, like the PS5, had been more integrated into the design. Therefore, the Digital Version of the PlayStation 5 Slim is definitely more visually appealing. 🙂

It’s worth mentioning positively that the Slim now fits better into its sideboard due to its smaller size and that the 4 side panels can now be opened individually, making console maintenance easier.

Also, compared to its older sibling model, the PS5 Slim has 180 GB more hard drive storage and still runs at 5500 MB/s.

The PS5 Slim is also backward compatible with most PS4 games, benefiting from the higher performance. However, the PS5 Slim also has some disadvantages, such as the noise level, heat development, or the lack of a stand. Therefore, the PS5 Slim is not suitable for everyone. It is a good choice for those looking for a smaller console, may want to upgrade the CD drive later, and benefit from more storage space and a new USB-C port.

I ultimately chose the PS5 Slim, but it wasn’t an easy decision. Especially regarding the heat generation, the PS5 Slim definitely lags behind the large PS5.

It simply cannot be good to remove more passive cooling and then install a smaller fan. I think especially the passive heatsink should not have been further pared down, and that is now disadvantageous for the console in terms of lifespan. But that should only play into Sony’s hands, as we customers will need a new console much earlier.
